Guatemala. Our second home. This was our fourth trip there (2013, 2014, 2015, and this year) and we both felt that calming sense of going home. Not the sometimes nerve-racking feeling of jumping into a foreign culture. We’ve grown to love these kids, and the people at the children’s home, and the time spent there is never long enough.
This year was different in a few ways. We had a larger group of almost 20, and with the trip being a few days shorter than normal, we didn’t dive in too deep to any work projects. Just smaller, more random jobs that needed attention. But the plus side to that was getting to spend more time with the kids. Playing with them on the playground, getting our butts kicked by them in soccer, and holding babies for hours at a time. You can’t argue with that.
If you have never considered it, we can’t urge you enough to support children like this who desperately need help. Eagle’s Nest is doing an incredible job of reaching out to the community, schooling the kids, loving them, and taking care of them, but there’s still a huge need in Guatemala and the surrounding area. Please, take a few minutes to explore www.eaglesnestint.org and partner in the work this place is doing to help kids in need. Enjoy the photos of this beautiful place.
If you want to see more, we made a slideshow with some of these photos, and some photos from others that were on the trip as well!
